“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
– Carl Rogers
What a brilliant and insightful quote. We spend so much of our lives believing that to change ourselves will help us to finally love and accept ourselves when ironically it is completely the opposite.
As tough as it may be to some, to accept yourself is the biggest step. If you can’t do it, then simply trying to continuously change yourself will only lead to more confusion, mind traps and self hate. It is why crash dieting has become so popular, why women crave plastic surgery and consumerism has rocketed. We think if we change, we might finally like who we are or more importantly – we will be accepted by others.
Take this quote into your head and make it your quest to discover ways of accepting who you are NOW- not in the future when you are thinner or richer or driving a Ferrari- now.
I know it’s a tough challenge but simply to become aware of your patterns tricking you into thinking that you MUST change in order to be happy, is a huge step in the right direction.
You don’t need to change, you need to reveal your true self and find a way to express yourself fully and completely so that inner light never gets turned off again.
Let’s all make it our purpose and divine right to accept who we are now. I never have been more challenged than right now- I have short short hair, I’m 2 stone over weight and I have no idea what’s coming next.
